We are thrilled to announce the launch of the Toolkit for Disability Equity, a comprehensive resource designed to advance disability equity in scholarly communications. This toolkit offers practical guidance, strategies, and tools to create more inclusive environments for individuals with disabilities. As a community-led project, our goal was to focus our resource on the needs of disabled people, while also incorporating best practices for engaging around disability issues in the scholarly communication workplace.
The toolkit covers essential topics such as:
- Inclusive Practices: Implementing best practices for creating an inclusive workplace.
- Disclosure: Considering the details of when and how to disclose a disability at work.
- Accommodations: How to request and handle accommodation requests
Including disability equity in the scholarly communications workplace is crucial – approximately 16% of the world’s working-age population has a disability. Many of these disabilities are hidden, meaning you may not even be aware that your colleagues have them. By fostering an inclusive environment, we can ensure that everyone has the opportunity to contribute their best work and feel valued within our community.
