The Coalition for Diversity and Inclusion in Scholarly Communications (C4DISC) is seeking passionate volunteers to join our new Communications and Outreach Working Group.

About C4DISC

C4DISC is a coalition of scholarly communications organizations working to build equity, inclusion, diversity, and accessibility across our field. Our mission is to work with organizations and individuals to build equity, inclusion, diversity, and accessibility in scholarly communications, with a vision of creating a socially just community that welcomes, values, and celebrates all who seek to contribute to scholarly communications.

With fifteen member organizations, partners and many working group volunteers, C4DISC has developed resources, established partnerships, and continues to implement meaningful initiatives that advance DEI in our industry.

The Opportunity

We are forming a Communications and Outreach Working Group to expand our reach, enhance our messaging, and engage more effectively with the scholarly communications community. This is your chance to contribute to meaningful change while developing your skills and expanding your professional network.

What You’ll Do

These are the kinds of tasks the committee will undertake – it is not a comprehensive list and we welcome ideas from members themselves in support of our mission:

  • Create compelling content for our website, newsletters, and social media channels
  • Identify and engage potential new member organizations and partners
  • Develop outreach materials and presentations
  • Design promotional materials and infographics
  • Help with social media presence and online community building
  • Track and analyze engagement metrics
  • Engage with partner and adopting organisations for learning opportunities
  • Scan scholarly communications landscape for DEIA events and initiatives to amplify

Who We’re Looking For

We do not expect you to tick every box! A willingness to collaborate and share the load is most important.

  • Passion for diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility
  • Working within or experience in scholarly communications
  • Collaborative mindset and ability to work in virtual teams
  • Background in communications, marketing, or public relations
  • Experience with social media management and digital marketing
  • Data analysis and reporting (for analytics review)
  • Design or multimedia creation abilities
  • Experience with stakeholder engagement and relationship building

Time Commitment

We’re looking for volunteers who can commit to:

  • Monthly working group meetings (1-2 hours via video conference)
  • Project work (A maximum 2 hours per month, flexible timing)
  • Occasional events or special initiatives (as available)

We understand that everyone has different availability and welcome contributions at various levels of engagement however please do not apply if you are unable to commit the time required in most months.

We welcome working group suggestions if you have an idea for a project that C4DISC might be suited to accomplish.


C4DISC values respect, listening, learning, and action. We welcome diverse perspectives and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all volunteers. We encourage applications from individuals of all backgrounds, particularly those from historically underrepresented groups in scholarly communications.

Application Deadline: Rolling basis – we’ll review applications as they’re received and begin forming the working group once we have sufficient interest.
